Is social media obliged as a small business

As a small entrepreneur you want to do what you like, but there is more to having a business than just creating. Think of administration, networking (introvert here!) and marketing. Social media is a very nice marketing tool, but what if you don't want it and is it actually so nice.

Unfortunately, it has become a necessary task for many small business owners. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok can help you showcase your work and build an audience. There are plenty of examples of creators who have gone viral and can now grow their businesses. However, creating consistent and engaging content can be time-consuming and difficult to combine with your passion. In addition, algorithm changes can make your carefully curated posts less visible, which can be frustrating.

Social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok use complex algorithms to determine what content users see. These algorithms are designed to optimize the user experience, but they can also be unpredictable for small business owners. For example, a change in algorithm can lead to a sudden drop in the reach of your posts, even if you're consistently posting valuable and relevant content. In addition, algorithms may favor certain types of content, such as videos or posts with faces, making other forms of content less visible. This can mean that as a business owner, you need to constantly adjust your strategy to stay visible, which can be time-consuming and energy-consuming. What works today may be less effective tomorrow.

Social media offers opportunities for small business owners to grow their brand, but it's important to be aware of the reliance on external platforms. It's advisable to strike a balance between online visibility and other marketing strategies, such as your own website or newsletter, to support your business in the long term.

So no you shouldn't be on social media, it helps but shouldn't be the only thing you're doing. You should do what you feel good about and where you want to put your energy.
